Leading By Design Coaches

Rodger Price

Founder

I founded Leading by DESIGN in 2014 and recruited an amazing team of coaches and teachers. My role as the retired founder is to do anything I can to help them pursue our mission.

My Background & Experience

I have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.

After a dozen years as an automotive engineer, I shifted to the development of organizational leaders. I was trained in coaching in 1999 and started coaching internally at Johnson Controls shortly thereafter. I also coached many people in tennis in the 80s, which formed a lot of my coaching and teaching philosophy.

My Coaching Philosophy

I believe coaching is primarily about helping people find their own best answers to the challenges they face. There are times when offering suggestions can help them find their best answers, but often my suggestions will not be helpful, so they need to be offered with caution and no expectations that they will be adopted.

I love seeing people grow (ever since my tennis coaching days in the 1980s) and found that the brand of coaching we do is the most effective process for helping people grow.

Areas of Focus

In this season of life, I am limited to how many people I’m able to coach. For those I can, I enjoy coaching athletes and followers of Jesus.

My Favorite Leadership Prompts

  1. Stop and listen for God’s guidance in this and then tell me what you’re sensing.
  2. What would be a great question to ask at this point? (And then ask it of them.)
